Fifty years ago the exhaust notes of some of the finest cars ever built were rocking the world.
Sports cars were making great technological leaps and the muscle car era was in full gear. Looking back through the tire smoke certain cars from 1965 jump to the head of the pack. Here is my list, in no particular order, of the top rides rolling on the roads a half century ago.
The 1965 Buick Riviera GS: A custom from the factory that was American with a European flair. Probably one of the best looking cars GM ever built.
The 1965 Cheetah: The Cobra for the GM crowd…pure awesome and a real animal on the track.
The 1965 Porsche 911: It took 911 tries to get it perfect, and it remains a timeless creation with classic lines that are still in the DNA of the modern 911!
The 1965 Corvette Roadster: The split window in ’63 was a better looking coupe and 427 greatness was still to come, so the roadster with a 327 would have been the hot ticket Corvette in ’65.
The Ford trifecta of 1965!
The 1965 Shelby Cobra: The song “Hey little Cobra” sums it up!
The 1965 Ford GT40: Ford was serious about taking down Ferrari, and this was the proof.
The 1965 Shelby GT350 Mustang: A car that set standards and entrenched the original pony car into American culture.
The 1965 Ferrari 250 GT0: Red greatness…what else can you say?
The 1965 Pontiac GTO: The second year goat continued Pontiac's triumph. I will take one in Iris Mist Metallic with tri-power on that 389 thank you!
The 1965 Dodge/Plymouth A990’s: The 426 Hemi drag strip terrors...Mopar or no car!
The 1965 Aston Martin DB5: “Bond, James Bond.” A car that shook and stirred the soul!
Anybody think I left something out?
